After loosing our pet cat, we went to Safari Stan's Pet Center on Old Country Rd in Carle Place to purchase a kitten. We found 2 that we liked. One was ready to be sold so we took that one home that night. My daughter loved a newborn kitten which we were told was not able to be removed from the mother cat until June 8. The owner of Safari Stan's, Barry Boyarsky, accepted a $100 deposit for that kitten. He assured me that the kitten would be there when we returned on June 8th. My daughter took a picture of the kitten on her cell phone and needless to say, showed it to everyone she met. We went to visit the kitten on Sunday, June 6th and the kitten was gone. When I asked an employee where the kitten was, the employee said he didn't know. I was told to call Barry the owner, the next day. I called Barry and he apologized saying that he sold our kitten to another person who came in to the store and bought two kittens and paid cash. I was flabergasted. I reminded him that I had purchased two kittens. I told him that he took a $100 deposit from me and promised me that the kitten was ours. He said he remembered making that promise. I asked him why the kitten was sold prior to June 8th when he had told us that that was the earliest we could pick up the kitten. He said they sold the kitten when the vet said it was okay to do so. When I asked him why he didn't call and let me know that we could have the kitten earlier, he didn't have an answer for me. He acted as if he had sold a promised car not a pet. He said I could have another kitten. The point was my daughter picked out that particular kitten because he was so different from the rest of the litter! She didn't want just any kitten! The pet store owner acted like a used car salesman not at all what you would expect from an animal lover. But then again, I guess he's not an animal lover, just a business person looking to make money. I refused to accept another kitten from him because I didn't want to do business with a person that I didn't trust.
