I found Family Solution Centers, LLC on the internet. I needed assistance with filing court documents for child support modification and custody. I explained that my case was complicated because my divorce took place in Missouri, and my ex-wife and children live in Illinois and I live in Indiana. I did not know in which state and county to file.
I was assured that FSC would provide court documents for the proper county/state. I was required to pre-pay $950.00 before any work would be done. Fair enough. I paid using my credit card. My case worker changed 3 times (without anyone telling me), making contact difficult. Eventually I was sent a questionnaire to fill out.
After initial e-mails to me, there were several weeks when I could not reach anyone at FSC by phone or email, and my case did not progress. Finally, I did get a call back and was told that FSC had moved and the telephone numbers had changed, although no one from FSC ever bothered to give me that information.
I completed the questionnaire and submitted it to FSC. The questionnaire states, "Any blank answers (on the questionnaire) will result in blank answers to questions on your court documents. You will then have to supply those answers in black ink onto the documents before filing with the court." More simply—if you don't supply the information to us, you will have to write it in yourself. Again, fair enough.
I was e-mailed court documents (with blanks because I did not have some of the information) for Ogle County, Illinois. When I tried to file the documents with Ogle County, they would not accept the filing. I was told that Ogle County was not the correct county with which to file my case.
I contacted FSC requesting court documents for the correct county/state. Item #7 in the contract I signed with FSC states: "Upon receiving your court documents and filing, please contact Family Solution Centers, LLC if there needs to be any changes made to the content or format of your paperwork. Please be advised that it is part of your program for the Legal Document Specialist Department to make additional changes to the documents we prepared for you to fit your needs."
I received no response to my e-mail. For weeks, and literally months, I continued to contact FSC via e-mail and phone. I received someone's voice mail EVERY TIME I called. I left messages, but never received any call backs.
Because nothing else was working, I initiated another initial contact via the FSC website. When I received a call from that contact, I explained to the representative that I was trying to get a response to my request. I was told that was NOT the way to go about it and was given the same numbers I had already been calling and not receiving responses to.
I continued to contact FSC from October through September with no response. I was literally left hanging because I did not know where to turn to get help.in March I contacted the Indiana Attorney General Consumer Protection Division. They sent a letter to FSC. This month (May) we received the response from FSC. Scott Warren from FSC stated that I did not receive the documents I requested for Jackson County, MO because I had not provided complete information to FSC.
This is untrue and unfair. They sent me court documents for Ogle County, IL (the wrong county) with incomplete information. There is no reason they could not have provided the documents for Jackson County, MO with the information they already had.
Yet in his response, Scott Warren states, "Family Solution Centers has already sent James a petition for modification of child support, custody and visitation as agreed." He further states, " (James) will be able to file successfully once he supplies information that we have requested from the beginning of the process..." and "Upon receipt of the requested information we will send out a Petition to Enroll a Foreign Judgment bringing the standing order in Missouri into the Illinois court to be adjudicated, and he will then be able to successfully file his petition for modification."
Again, keep in mind that the first court documents I received from FSC (for the WRONG county) were provided to me even though I had not provided the information they are now saying they need. They are using that as an excuse and putting the blame on me.
I began asking for the correct court documents in October. FSC willfully ignored me. Now, almost 2 years later Scott Warren states they will send me the documents for the correct court in the correct county and state if I send them information they obviously didn't need for the first papers.
After 2 years, the documents are no longer helpful or useful to me.
I tried, in good faith, for months, to get the service I paid for. FSC had no interest in responding to me then. Only after being contacted by the attorney general, did FSC respond to me, but in that response they are being deceitful and will not refund my money.
I would strongly suggest that if you are searching for legal services you do not use Family Solution Centers. Once FSC has your money, they really show no motivation to respond to concerns or requests. They might have many satisfied customers... I don't know. What I DO know is when I had a concern with the service they provided me, they had NO interest in responding to my concerns, ignoring my e-mails and calls. They already had my money, and that's all that mattered to them.
Keep in mind that for every report you see here there are undoubtedly many more who have not reported because they just don't know how, or do not know what options they have when they are treated unfairly.
