We purchased a mens' wedding ring from Ben Moss in Ottawa, Ontario in the fall of 2009. This ring has a split shank with several small diamonds between the shanks. The ring is white gold.
After our wedding on January 22, after having the ring for a whole 2 1/2 days, I dropped it (like we all do from time to time) from a whopping height of about 2 feet, and the ring broke clean through in one spot, and was badly bent in another. I put the ring away and during the next few days it became even more misshaped, I believe through metal stress. We contacted Ben Moss on our return and although they were nice at first, we were later told that it was obvious that we had been abusing the ring and that we had "crushed" it. They went right to accusing the customer and didn't even consider the issue was workmanship. I complained about this treatment by phone and email to their head office but I was never contacted after that. Fed up at this point, we took the ring to the other Ottawa location. The new manager there was very apologetic and agreed to have the ring repaired and strengthened free of charge. This was done in the month of February. Because I was so worried about the strength of this ring, I seldom wear it, especially if I will be working, lifting, gripping, etc. Talk about an expensive useless situation. Anyways, 2 days ago I noticed that the ring had again become misshaped. I immediately took it off and the next day I noticed it was even worse (without being worn). Obviously there is still a structural problem with this ring. I called Benn Moss at the location that was most helpful. Although Byron did ask me to come into the store, he was rather snotty about it. At this point they obviously won't replace the ring, we tried that already when it was only a month or so old and only in use for 2 1/2 days. I will add to this report after my visit to the store later today. Our feeling right now is that we wasted our money on this piece of crap (nearly $1000). We were good loyal customers before this, spending thousands on my wife's rings and other items. One thing is for sure, we will never give these guys a penny of our business again.
