Globe Movers was hired to ship our household goods from North Carolina to Fiji. The shipment was picked up on June 26. Globe Movers was paid in full on July 11.
We heard nothing from them for several months; we assumed the shipment was on the way.in late August, I sent email asking about the status of our shipment. I made it clear that we were anxious to receive it. I also asked for a quote to send a container from Fiji to the USA. I did not suggest or imply that I wanted the shipment returned to the USA.
On Sept 1, Megan Karpick, owner of Globe Movers, sent a message stating that my shipment had been 'transshipped' back to the USA! I was shocked and inexpressibly disappointed. As I was to learn later, this was a lie - my shipment had, in fact, never left North Carolina.
From this point on, Globe Movers cut off communication with both my employer and me. We have attempted to contact numerous people at Globe Movers daily for the past 6 weeks by phone and email. I have most urgently requested information on the whereabouts of my shipment (which contains everything I own). We have also asked repeatedly for a refund.
Globe Movers' response is total and complete silence regarding the whereabouts of my shipment. They have provided no information - ever. Despite their complete failure in providing the contracted service, they have failed to provide a refund.
I contacted a warehouse in Durham, North Carolina and discovered that my shipment has been there since they picked it up on June 26. Globe Movers had hired this company to collect my things, but never paid them. This company never heard from Globe Movers again.
A Sunrise police detective was sent to investigate Globe Movers. Steven Kuller of Globe Movers told the detective that we provided 3 different destinations for the shipment, which is a lie. He also told the police that my shipment had been sent to New York - another lie that is easily verifiable.
Despite Globe Movers' intentional attempt to keep me in the dark regarding the location of my property (again, everything I own!) I managed to track it down. For nearly a month I experienced tremendous stress and frustraction, thinking that I had lost everything. Since Globe Movers administered the insurance, I was certain that we would not be compensated for the loss, either.
Regarding Megan Karpick and Steven Kuller: they are corrupt and deceiptful. They have stolen thousands of dollars from my employer and I, so they gained financially from the situation.
But these people are worse than that. They stood to gain nothing by keeping me in the dark regarding the whereabouts of the shipment. I can't help but think there is something terribly wrong with these folks - they're not simply greedy and amoral, (although I usually try to give people the benefit of the doubt) they actually seem sadistic.
I am a single mother of a 3-year old, with no support from anyone, financial or otherwise. It took a great leap of faith or foolishness to accept a volunteer-level job in Fiji, which is a poor, developing country. Losing all our possessions would have been difficult had we still been in Durham, NC, surrounded by friends and familiar customs. But to have this happen when we were alone and struggling in a foreign country. Trying to pursue this from the other side of the world, well frankly, it was almost more than I could cope with. Although I hate to give them the satisfaction of knowing this, it nearly drove me crazy.
Ms. Karpick and Mr. Kuller were well aware of my situation. Their purposeful attempts to make my life and my son's life miserable are unforgivable.
I will not give up until my employer and I have been fully refunded.
