To all singers, songwriters, artist and musicians... DO NOT SIGN UP WITH TUNECORE TILL YOU READ THIS! There is a lot of talk going around on the internet saying that TUNECORE STEALS ARTIST MONEY! And sadly, we were guilty of some of it. But now lets set the record straight and get everything back into perspective shall we?
TUNECORE IS A BUSINESS! And they do not steal money! When we sign up as an artist, we indeed are marketing ourselves as a business as well! And what do businesses have in common? Accountability! When we sell music, we are selling OURSELVES, OUR SKILLS, OUR GIFTS, and OUR TALENTS for a PROFIT, and with the music business being the way it is now... Every wants due credit for their work... PERIOD!
Whether it's a sample, a remix, a instrumental, a mix-tape or whatever... We must obtain the proper credentials before we release such things in the public's eye.
When you sign up for Tunecore, You agree that the music submitted is RIGHTFULLY YOURS or you have the legal rights to distribute the music! Tunecore in good faith takes your word and does their job in getting you out there and paying your money! (We have been with them for nearly a year) and they have done an excellent job at that)
NOW LETS GET DOWN TO THE MEATY PARTS! (Here is where it gets JUICY)
You read quite a few post about TUNECORE IS STEALING MONEY! Tunecore froze our account! Tunecore are theives!!! Tunecore is a scam!!! Blah blah blah... (and sadly we were guilty of some of that)... But before you make a judgemental call... LOOK AT THE FACTS BEHIND THE COMPLAINTS! Was The Artist In Violation of any copyrights... YES! Did the artist fail to get the correct license for the work... YES! Did the artist correct course and send out the correct license after proper notification... NO!...
TUNECORE takes great pride in their artist and sees to it that they become fully aware of what is necessary by providing free ebooks and articles on how to get copyrights and GET YOUR MUSIC OUT THERE LEGALLY! (It's our OWN FAULT if we don't read it)
TUNECORE is a business that is HELD LIABLE for the artist and their content... If Tunecore allows an artist to get away with such action... THEY CAN LOOSE THEIR BUSINESS and thus make it hard on those who are DOING IT THE RIGHT WAY!!! So in all respects... YES, THEY WILL FREEZE YOUR ACCOUNT UNTIL PROPER ACTION IS TAKEN!!!...
This protects them! Protects you! And protects all the tunecore artist.
Our Advice to Any New Coming Artist out there is this: Get Your License and Paperwork Right before starting with ANY DISTRIBUTION COMPANY! And ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT... They Put it there for a reason... They have nothing to hide from you!
If you are an artist whose account has been frozen. Be patient, polite, and give tunecore what they are asking for!!! Period! (they don't need your money)... Because It's YOUR OWN ASS THAT'S ON THE LINE! This music game is SERIOUS! Artist are starving, The Record Industry is Loosing Money! And If they see or hear you duplicating ANY PART OF THEIR MUSIC or Artist... THERE COMING AFTER YOU!!! And they will win!!! Don't Believe Us? TRY USING PRINCE MUSIC!
TUNECORE HAS NO TOLERANCE FOR LOOSING BUSINESS AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU!...
If you have any questions feel free to talk to Peter Wells @ Tunecore... He is a cool guy and he will put you on the right track... And PLEASE by all means don't get mad at Tai Morita... He's just doing his job! Somebody has to EXECUTE THE RULES! And he does that with a passion!...
P.S. Tunecore did not pay us to say this or give us any money to say this... (this is from the heart)... Our account got frozen, and we had to go through the same procedure like everybody else! No money was lost... We just had to get off our butts, get our legal work together send it back to them and get things back to trucking! It's called taken reponsibility and being accountable... And thats good business! Tunecore does good business!
