We were not informed at any time by this company that their policies excluded property moved into a storage unit. It was not disclosed until we ask to file a claim. We were told upfront at this point that their policy did not include storage unit damage, so a claim was never properly filed. We hired this company 2 times in late 2009. Neither time was this information made known to us of their policy.
We did contact the BBB locally to intervene, but as the BBB told us, they are not a consumer advocate. We do not hold a paid membership with the BBB so they closed our case as resolved.
The resolution consisted of the company offering a 'good faith' decision, but the company held ground vehemently that they do not cover damage to articles moved into a storage unit. We refused to file a claim per their 'good faith' offer based on the company's stand that we were not insured and the company would not pay or repair for damages. Their representative repeated this policy over & over again. They only offered this resolution to save face as a member of the BBB & close the case.
The case was closed & our family heirlooms and other possessions that have been damaged by the companys' employee's, is at our expense. The company presented no verbal or written policy regarding storage unit moves. Nor would the purchase of additional insurance have covered it, per the company & their representative.
There was also a theft of an old prescription of Verapamil by one of the company employees, but the company's representative refused to acknowledge it during our conversation.
It is a shame that we have been left liable for their damage. We do hope that this complaint will shed light for others who may consider moving and that they will make sure they are hiring an honorable company with open communication & policy.
