I ordered a formal gown from the Lew Magram catalog via mail, paying in advance with a check in the beginning of September 1999. I wanted the dress for a cruise I was taking on October 17,1999.
At the beginning of September, after veryfing with by bank that the check had cleared in mid-September, I called Lew Magram's Customer Service Department to check on the order. I was told the dress shipped in mid-September. The week before my cruise I called again because the dress had not arrived, and was told the order never shipped, and that the dress was on back order. I cancelled the order and requested a reimbursement.
In the beginning of November I called again when I did not receive reimbursement, and was told the check was 'in the mail'. I called again two weeks later and requested a new check be cut. I received the check in late December 1999 and deposited in my account.
In mid January I received a notice from my bank that the check had bounced, been resubmitted, and bounced again. My bank charged me an $8.00 fee for the bad check.in addition, one of my personal checks bounced because of insufficient funds resulting from Lew Magram's bad check, and my bank charged me an additional $28.00 for this.
I have called Lew Magram's three times since that day, and cannot get anyone to answer at their customer service center.
