My partner and I had just ventured out on our own doing contracting and carpentry work. We started with very little money and struggled to get our name out there. Somehow a sales rep found us and gave us a sales pitch on how beneficial a merchant account would be for us. At that time there were sevaral "start-up" fees and we couldn't afford it, then he asked what we were grossing a month in income and even he realized we couldn't afford it. He said he would check with us in a couple of months to see how business was.
He did just that, and business was better and I almost had him off the phone and he gave me "the deal", no start up fees, waive the first month payment and reduce our monthly charge to $51.50/mo. And of course he called around 4:00pm and he needed an answer by 5:00pm. I told the rep I needed to talk to my partner and I would get back to him asap. Please keep in mind at the time I had never owned my own business and I was 21 yrs. Old. Of course I thought it was a hell of an offer, I couldn't contact my partner and so I went ahead and said yes.
Later I did talk with my partner and he too thought it was a good deal at the time, my wife on the other hand wasn't on the same team. She basically told us we could use the money elsewhere such as advertising. It was agreed that we would cancel the service. A couple days after talking to the rep, someone was sent to our house to setup the machine and as he told us, that was his only job and if we wanted to cancel then we needed to send in the Notice of Cancellation paper. We did just that. This was June 14 the cancellation paper was sent and they continued to pull money out until December and then the account was shut down. At the beginning of every month I was on the phone talking to computers and being transferred I faxed in bank statements all to no avail. They have sucked over $700 out of me for a service I never used.
After the account was closed in December I thought it was finally over. I never heard a word then in June of 7 months later I received a letter from Metropolitan Adjustment Bureau and they want $3236.61. I have called on two occassions to explain what happened and both times I talk to this snotty little woman who will not listen, she enjoys attempting to lecture me and when I bring up the Notice of Cancellation that "her" company provided me with in the beginning, she hangs up.
She threatend to turn my case into a lawsuit, if I dont pay the amount they want. They are all crooks.
