I retained the services of Macey & Aleman on July. I was in a desperate situation after my release from active duty after 9 years in the Marines. My bills were overwhelming and I decided my only choice was to file Bankruptcy. So I met with a Macey and Aleman attorney in there Austin office. They were real nice and everything they said sounded great. So I paid my retainer fee of $100 and setup a payment plan for $50 a month. The lawyer told me that it would make filing easier if I had not paid on my credit accounts for at least 6 months since I was mostly current on my accounts. Also not to use my debit cards to purchase anything so there was no record. I paid for about 10 months. Over the time my job improved and I was actually able to pay down a lot of my debt. I kept getting settlement offers so I took them. I tried to process a refund with Macey & Aleman and they told me I would receive it within 30 days. What I received instead about 60 days later was a letter that said it was not a bill but showed where they had accounted for every email read, phone call made and itch scratched that pertained to my case.instead of a refund check for 600 dollars the paper said I actually owed $75. All the accumulated time at $250 dollars an hour equaled more then I had paid. They don't tell you that they are going to charge you by the hour for time served if you cancel. But if you do cancel they charge you 6 minutes for every call, 12 minutes for every letter read and your initial counseling even though you only paid a $100 is actually 90 minutes which cost you $350. So don't pay any money into them you ever expect to get back if you change your mind.
