My Moving estimate was for $1,485 which included $15,000 pounds. My end total on my Discover card is $4,000 split into 3 charges!!! A deposit of $180, $3,505 for the move and a random $315 that I absolutely did not authorize! When the movers arrived (3 hrs. Late) they took an inventory of our house and said it was a MUCH smaller job than anticipated. They said it was actually a typical 8,000 pound move. The simply moving representative then started adding a lot of extra charges, such as $1,200 for stairs. The contract does not state a surcharge for stairs. I don't even know what the other $1,315 is for.
I didn't know what to do since the house we were moving from was a rental and the homeowners have a new family moving into this house in a few days. I argued that the charges were a lot more than the estimate, but I didn't know how else I was going to get moved. After I saw the last charge to my credit card that I didn't authorize I started researching this company on the internet more and saw that other consumers have had low ball offers from this company and had to pay more later on. 13 complaints on this usacomplaints.com site!
Before I chose this company I had noticed the BBB on their website so I thought they were a reputable company. But the BBB has 19 complaints against them! I wanted to use local movers recommended by friends, but they don't work weekends so I had to use an out-of-town company. I even put a hold on my credit card so no more charges could be made and put their charges in dispute.
