We are former owners of a family run pet shop. We decided to close our store and liquidate the contents of the store due to health issues. Steve Milligan approached us upon hearing that we were closing. He was interested in purchasing the contents that were left in the store. Claimed to be a company that bought out small pet shops supplies after they closed.
He said he would take all live stock as well as dry good because he re sells these items to other small pet shop owners. Claimed he was also going to open a small pet shop out of his home.
After several conversations with Mr. Milligan we decided that given the medical issues we were contenting with him buying out the contents was the best route to go since we would not have to move it all out.
Over the course of three days he removed the remaining stock. Basically took everything, fixtures, cages, tanks, live stock and dry goods. His agreement was that he would pay off the remaining balance for the merchandise over the course of the next 6 months. Making monthly installments.
The first couple of payments came after much proding. Never once was one payment made with out multiple attempts trying to reach him. Then it was months before he would answer the phone. On several occasions we had driven out to his home to try and contact him.
Every time we had conversation the same old story. "Business is slow. The whole industry is bad." We did not need to be told that. We knew first hand what business was like. While the medical issues were the deciding factor in closing the store we had been tossing with the idea due to the downward trend of the economy.
Steve removed these items approximately July 1. Since then we have helped him sell the saltwater systems and in return assumed he would have paid us off. Unfortunately, he did not pay a cent. We could have sold the systems ourselves, we had the buyer but he claimed he was going to use them in "his shop".
It is now well over a year and he will not return, nor answer phone calls. Makes all kinds of promises "to get a check out in the mail by the end of the week." That check has yet to arrive.
This man obviously is a very poor businessman and its no wonder that he isn't making any money. It obviously has NOTHING to do with the economy. It's his dishonesty and his ability to scam people.
Clearly, he does not run a honest business. He takes peoples money and merchandise and makes all kinds of promises but NEVER follows thru with any of them.
He is nothing but a scam artist. Beware! You could be his next victim.
