Flat Rate Moving & Storage
Moving Company Scammed me

I used this company to move at the end of May. I only moved 2 miles away from my old home to new apartment.

When the movers arrived, they seemed friendly, and had me sign their contract. I now know, however, what they do to scam you: they have two separate lines on their contract for you to sign. The first is before they move your stuff, the second for afterward. The first time I signed, the price agreed upon was 520 for my move. The price was NOT supposed to increase - I read over all the contract paper work after the move and found out that what they did was totally bogus. However, after moving half of my belongings into my new apartment, the "head" mover, who seemed to be in charge, named Shawn (wish I could read his last name on the signature line), mentioned that he wanted a big tip. It was a hot day out and he gave me an ultimatum: he said I could "take care of" him and the other movers, and if I did, he wouldn't call his company and have them tack on an additional fee for a "long walk" from the elevator to my room - he said that because it was a "long walk", the price would go up by about a hundred more dollars!

This seemed ridiculous to me, extortionate! I couldn't believe he demanded a tip or else an added fee! And I'm a young woman, and there was no one else to help me with these three big dudes there. I called the number for the moving company over and over and over again - they didn't pick up, and I left messages, but at the end of the day when they'd finished moving everything, the guy asked me what I would do and I refused to give him cash - I said I didn't have any, because I was so angry! - so what did he do? He used his cellphone to call somebody, I don't know who (I should have asked to speak with whoever it was, I know that now, but at the time I was shaking with anger and not thinking straight after moving my stuff in the 90 degree Miami heat for four hours) - and after he spoke with the person he wrote in a 90 dollar tip for himself on my receipt, and had me sign the contract again at the bottom, next to the increased fee.

Because I stupidly signed it, there is nothing I can now do, because it says I agreed to the 90 dollar increase, but it was completely against my will.

If you are a single female, do NOT call these movers.

I looked at their website and there are all these great testimonials about their services, and I think its totally bogus. I called them repeatedly and left complaining messages and asked them to call me, leaving my information, and could never again get in touch with those people.

It's frustrating, but I guess a learning experience: make sure you have someone big and authoritative with you, ladies - or else call the cops!
