TCF Bank steals money from account holders to make ends meet

So, I got paid 2 weeks ago. I had 700 in savings which is at the same bank and is attached to do transfers etc. Online. We went online all of our transactions had been cleared and 3 were pending but they take the money out while it is pending which is fine. I had in my log that we had $390 dollars left, they said 120. So we went out for the afternoon on Monday the 22nd of June. We used the credit card portion of our atm to purchase lunch for $21, a few small items at Home Goods for $33 and spent $18 on gas. That comes to $72. We also knew we had an outstanding check for $500 that was to be deposited on Wednesday A.M. At a different bank. We were good. We purchased a vehicle and wrote out a check for $500, I transfered the money that same day into our checking account. I went home And transfered $200 so that we would have extra money for the week. The deposit from savings showed up immediately in our total and showed as posted. That left $740 in our account online.

So we spent nothing on Tuesday and $12 on Wednesday morning. On Thursday when my husband got paid there was 800 in the account. We couldn't figure out why. We look. #1 they now showed no trace of my deposit of $200. They also showed that the tuesday and wednesday transactions posted before the other transactions. They showed the five transactions as insufficient funds. I don't see how. So then I look. They posted the $500 check on Wednesday night (had they posted my deposit that was done on MONDAY correctly it would have been in there. Then they posted the transactions that had been done on Monday and showed as pending monday night and already removed from our account showed our account balance as 327 when I transferred from savings. So they gave us 5 NSF fees.

$175 taken from our account because their system screwed up. When I called them, I was told there was some issues with the online program early in the week and they were sorry for the inconvenience. I asked if my NSF fees would be refunded, I was told NO. I was told that they were sorry that the other transactions came after the check even though they were done when there was apparently some issue. Then I said well what about my $200 deposit. They noted that yes it had been completed. But delayed because of the issue. I explained that since on MONDAY I made arrangements for the $500 transaction I did not feel that their error should cost me. They told me that the NSF fees did not appear to be on our account. I explained to them that based on what our account balance was showing as, it appeared that they were and he said no that we had a pending post for our insurance that obviously did not load when we opened it. A week later... YES A WEEK LATER suddenly the NSF fees post. $175. Guess what that did since I was not expecting it. Screwed me for another $175 today because we thought we had $100 left in the account and spent about $80 of it knowing I was getting paid tomorrow and we wouldn't need money today. Yeah we went and got groceries. Horrible people aren't we!

So I called again. I told them that as of Monday night. Those fees were NOT there, they told me that they have up to 7 days to post the NSF fees on transactions. I told them about my previous conversation and was told that noone from their company would have told me that. I was shocked! They did say there was a computer problem that Monday and there were some delays in postings etc., however, noone would have told me that there would not be NSF fees. I asked what I needed to do to dispute them I was told GOOD LUCK We are the bank. So I just sat down, knowing that when the paycheck went in 2 weeks ago we still had $80 in the bank, I put in just from the total paycheck on without whatever was left in our account previous and incluing the 1 NSF fees only came up with a $10 difference. I shouldn't be penalized for their computer issue. Then their weighted deposit thing and them delaying my deposit is what cost us the NSF fees, then more NSF fees because they lied to me. Our savings account is now down to $40 trying to cover our bills $350 worth of it was out of our control. We knew we were going to take out a little more to cover for rent etc this week, now we have no money for food or anything else for the next week!

We are going to go to our local bank and discuss the issue but I have no hope. Kind of like the $200 of the $1000 that was stolen out of our account that they never credited back to our account. TCF Bank is one of the banks that took bailout money. They gave HUGE bonuses to their employees and I feel like they are taking money from the account holders to cover something else. But seriously, I pay my bills, we make good money and we watch our account pretty regularly and balance out our account once a month by sitting down and going through a printed out list of transactions. We have had to do this because more than once we have printed out our transactions (we do it every few days) and we find an item was pended for payment like when they check your account, or put a hold on funds. Then when it should come off, it doesn't post but it doesn't get the money back in the account either. We have done the math out and proven to them that there is a discrepency in the account and we are told it will be investigated and then nothing happens.in the last 18 months we have caught it 6 times. (3 in the same timeframe). It is never a lot. It is usually just under $10 each time. No that doesn't seem like a lot but if you look at the thousands and thousands of account holders $60 bucks a year adds up.

I think someone should be investigating their practices. I think this higher amount first thing is a bunch of bull that is an excuse for them to screw people over. I think that their computer errors shouldn't cost account holders money. But they do. I honestly would have been not so upset if they explained there was an issue witht he transfer of funds and refunded the four that should have been processed 2 days earlier and had shown up on our account 2 days earlier. I would have dealt with one but the other four are just outrageous and unacceptable. Plus the delay in posting it but posting it like they did it the same timeframe, that is just wrong. Do it where you did it. Show that you did it on the 29th and not the 25th. Show there was almost a week delay in that posting!
