Shortly after becoming unengaged to my fiancee, I made the very costly mistake of responding to a Great Expectations ad. The phone calls began shortly thereafter, and they were relentless. "I'm not interested" is just a stumbling block for these people. I made appointment with them after they had phoned me several times, just so I could tell them "no" in person.
In my opinion, the well-trained salespeople find your weak spot and prey on it. It took someone three hours to wear me down to the point where I would actually commit to a contract and give them my credit card number. Their ammunition with me was that they were afraid I would go back to my unhealthy relationship if I didn't sign up for their wonderfully successful service. I was in a lot of emotional pain, wanted something to help me feel better, and they knew it.
The really sneaky part about the Great Expectations sales staff is that they don't record your conversation with them prior to the "I will", but turn on their little recording device once they have talked up the service so much that you think for sure it is worth the $1,250 I spent for a one-year subscription and sign on the dotted line. Did you know that dating/matchmaking services' contracts cannot be cancelled within 3 days like any other contract/agreement? I tried to get out of it 3 days post, but they absolutely refused me.
My phone call to Great Expectations was a tear-filled one, because, after speaking to a friend, I knew I had been ripped off. My friend had paid half my membership fee! Plus, prior to Great Expectations, I had no credit card debt and really couldn't afford the payments. Of course, the kind saleslady who had sold me the service was no longer understanding and kind when I wanted to be relieved of my obligation. Nothing doing. She had turned cold and uncaring.
Remember the "conversation recording" I mentioned earlier? Great Expectations uses that tape as a CYA for legal purposes... Imagine that! I approached Great Expectations several times, trying to appeal to their humanitarian side, but that didn't work. Then I told the saleslady who had worked me over that GE services are no better than any other dating website (and they aren't), she was just very good at what she does, which is mentally manipulating people.
I did not meet one single person from Great Expecations. The members are not of a better class, as I was told they would be.in fact, one member called me and wanted to know if I would spank him! Since I wouldn't, he was no longer interested in me! You can get that type of garbage from any low-budget dating service!
Buyer beware... Do not fill out anything from Great Expectations and do not reply to any of the little signs posted along roadways that ask if you are single and happy. Would you like to take one guess to whom those road signs belong? Hmmm; I wonder if it could be GE?
