"Dating Service, " as this Moscow-based company calls itself, posted a work-at-home ad on the internet which I was all too excited to answer. The ad claimed the dating service needed an English-speaking native to edit their letters to their clients. I contacted them and was given a steady stream of letters to edit over the next several days. I always did my work conscientiously, and the company praised me several times for doing my work well and for turning it in on time. They credited $170 total for all this work to my virtual "account."
After completing several assignments, I got an email from the company informing me that my position would be suspended for a few months, and that I had the option of continuing working with the company on a different project. The company offered me the position of "financial processor." Basically what they wanted was for me to open a checking account with which I could accept various amounts of money from their clients (payments) and send the money electronically to some other account. I was instructed to deduct 5% of whatever amount appeared in my account as my salary. I was also told that I would be able to deduct the $170 they owed me from the first amount that would appear in my checking account, roughly $8,000.
I checked my email and checking account daily for the first amount to appear. It never did. I contacted Dating Service multiple times about it but never received a response.
