Uyers beware Please be careful buying from the people in Houtzdale, PA. His name is Paul and he is through the SC Ranch. I am experienced in his dealings and have had many problems with his horses. When I was buying off of him, he had his horses for maybe a day. One of the first horses that we bought off of him was a paint gelding that ended up fracturing my back. Once this accident happened, we contacted him and learned that the horse had this sort of behavior. He did take the horse back though. Another example is a bay mare that I bought off of him that ended up being severely navicular. Also bought a grulla and white paint mare that was supposed to be kid-safe, however she took an experienced rider due to her being a hot horse. A buckskin mare that was to be kid-safe, but if not worked every day she was a bucker. We bought another gelding off of him that was to be a registered buckskin gelding. The horse was gaited, and ended up not being registered. The last horse dealing that we had with him was when we were searching for a Registered Missouri Foxtrotter that preferably had color. He called us to come out saying that he had found us one Yes it was colorful (it was a gorgeous black and white) but it wasn't registered and it wasn't gaited. Now I am not a gaited horse person, so I don't know much about gaits But I do know when they aren't gaiting Now we did get a few good horses off of him, so I am not saying that he is all bad Just beware. Also, we took a horse up to get bred to his black and white stud that is Blue Max bred. We were to get a black and white baby, however we didn't even get a baby Our mare didn't even get bred although she was there for well over a month. I also sent a started barrel gelding up to him to get him finished off. The barrel gelding could get a little carried away and excitable but wasn't trying to hurt you in anyway. The horse came back unfinished and was a lot worse He consistently was running off with you. I had to sell the horse because everyone was too scared to ride him. Also we had an experience with him on consigning horses too. There was a guy that had called us saying that Paul had consigned two horses for him and that he hadn't received the money for them yet. Paul had told him that we had bought the two horses and that we hadn't paid him yet and that is why the guy hadn't gotten paid. We never bought those two horses and the guy never got his money. The horse we consigned with Paul was a two-year old that was a problem horse. They drugged him up and sold him. The people called him for a return but I am not sure how it turned out. All of the events happened in the spring of 2007. We did buy some good horses off of him but it was about 50:50. This is just a few of the horses that we bought or had worked by Paul. We kept dealing with him because we thought he was our friend. I am not saying that you shouldn't buy off of him, just be careful Buyers Beware.
I have also posted this on a few other sites and have had many people contact me seeing if I could help them. There were some people that sold there family ponies to Paul because he promised them a good home Some were sent to slaughter. There was a lady who traded her good jumper gelding that was aged and they sold him a few days later with a few years taken off. I know that Paul has been banned from the Union City Sale Barn for a fact and I have heard that he has been banned from New Holland, Homer City, and several in New York State.
