Unitek Is The parent company of directsat llc. Directsat took over all installations for directv in the pittsburgh market and replaced Ironwood Communications. I am still an employee of Direcsat so far and have witnessed several things that are not kosher. And would advise anyone seeking a job to exclude DirecSat from their list of potential employers. To start off when we had a company wide meeting to discuss the new company taking over various promises were made, for instance a 5 day work week, company provided tools, a lighter work load, hand held computers to aid in activating directv equipment. Nothing that was discussed during that meeting ever happened.instead we are forced to work a 6 day week and on top of that no one is allowed to request there day off as a weekend day. Now under the previous company there was a pay deduction for tools. With Direcsat, we are given a web site to purchase tools at a slight discount but have to pay for the tools in full up front from a 3rd party. And as far as a lighter work load? Well due to all the people that have quit from the pay cuts and those that have gotten fired for various reasons there are not enough people to cover the work thus 4-6 jobs a day depending on your region. Now if you do 4 jobs a day, your likely working from 7am to sometimes 7pm or later. They expect you do be onsite on your first job by 8am sharp. Now if you put in (6) 12hr days. You worked 72 hours counting your travel. If you claim what you work it hurts your numbers and you stand the chance of going down a pay level. On top of the fact there is no over time pay, in the traditional sense. So people are forced to claim 40 hours in most cases to make it look like they are doing far better then is possible. Some new policy's include the company's OTG (on time guarantee) and fsr (field service requests) now from what i was told, if a customer were to call in to see when you might show up, whether or not you call them that produces an OTG or FSR. If this happens to you twice in a day your fired. Not to mention the supervisors must let go there bottom tech's each month. Another thing to mention is there Damage Claim And Vehicle Policies. If you were to accidentally damage a customers house or they claimed you have, you would be responsible for 50% of the damages and that would come out of your paycheck automatically. The same goes for there trucks, they expect you to pay the $500 deductible in the event you are in an accident that the insurance company says it was avoidable or your fault. Directsat Usa LLC does not back its employees whatsoever. They send QC Tech's to watch you do your job on a regular basis and supervisors to make sure you wear a safety vest and hard hat even when on a residential property. I'm putting this account online because i haven't seen anything about this company since there relatively new but i hope if you do or have worked for them you can add to this and if your considering employment with then please dont put yourself through the aggravation and keep looking for employment elsewhere.

Also there are factors that effect your pay grade most of which are under your control some that arent, Now the company is aware of these problems and does nothing about it. Now why would they do nothing? Because it helps keep you in a lower pay grade thus saving them money. Now i'll try to explain what i mean by this. If your given 3 jobs to complete and you complete all 3 jobs you are given 100% completion rate for that day. Keep that up over 3 months and you would get points that help you raise yourself a pay grade. There are other categories but ill cover the the most obvious problem with the system. So With this system "glitch" some jobs cancel or reschedule sometimes after their faxed to you and sometimes weeks before so you never even knew they existed. Now potentially if your given 3 jobs on any work day there's a chance you really have 5 or more jobs under your tech ID. So how does this affect you? Well If your faxed 3 jobs but the system has you down for 5, there your completion for that does is not 100% it would be 60%. Now your not getting your full point potential. Thus you stand the chance to stay in your current pay grade instead of going up one or even worse going down one. Now the company directsat usa knows of these problems. Even the supervisors researched it and found the problem. But directsat refused to fix this glitch that only hurts the technician. Another problem that isn't always in our control is service calls, for instance you get an elderly 80 yr old lady or man that cant operate the system no matter how many times you explain it to them. Each time they call in that also hurts your numbers, but the difference with that is, its partially within your control. The Completion rates are not and they are holding tech's beneath there proper pay grades. And i feel directsat knowing this, intentionally doesn't fix this to pad their wallets.
