Charged for a returned game

I rented Mortal Kombat vs DC from a local Blockbuster on a Saturday, and made sure to return it on time, on the following Thursday night. I clearly remember going there specifically to return it that night, and my wife was with me as well at the time. We returned it by placing it in the drop-off box outside the store.

Everything was fine until I got a charge on my bank account from Blockbuster for $64.95 about two weeks later. This was apparently because they did not have the game back. I got no warning of being charged, and it was automatic, so I wouldn't even have known about it unless I was checking my bank account's transaction history. I also returned the game on time.

When I called Blockbuster, they could only suggest that I hadn't returned it, and possibly still had it somewhere, and to look for it. Despite clearly remembering returning it, I did this, and searched both the car and home thoroughly. I also called another Blockbuster location in town that we have rented items from, just in case we somehow returned it there instead. They checked and said they didn't have it. I also called a local Hastings that we sometimes rent from, and they also checked for it and said they didn't have it.

I called them back after all this, and they couldn't offer any suggestions. They (including the manager) seemed adamant that it was clearly impossible for the store to have misplaced the game, or have made any error whatsoever. So I really don't know what to do about this.

I know that I returned the game, I remember it clearly, and have a witness to it.in addition, in despite of this I have entertained the possibility that I did misplace it, and have checked into and exhausted every possibility that it could possibly be anywhere else. The problem is, I don't have any hard evidence for it, since I returned it to the drop-off box instead of handing it to someone inside the store. Blockbuster isn't willing to even listen to the possibility that they could have misplaced the game though, and has shown no sympathy or attempt to help with this issue at all, only insisting on charging me for a game that I know was returned on time.
