I shut off my service with Vonage in July because I was planning a move and shut off my internet to save money (you cannot run vonage without the internet). They charged my bank account $30.06 in September 08. When I called in to ask them why they charged my account, they advised me they "gave me 2 months free" and now the charges would begin again.
I advised them I "shut off" my service in July. The operator was very rude and said "no, we just gave you 2 months free." I asked her to look at the account history and she would see I had'nt used the service since July. She said "it doesn't matter." (This operator's name was Monica)
When I finally spoke to an "account manager" she gave me several options; none of which was to reimburse me or to cancel out my account. She said I had agreed to a 2 year agreement when I sighned up in Feb. 08. I explained to her that I have used vonage for over 4 years in different locations and have NEVER been told it is a 2 year contract. She said if I cancel that there would be a $39.99 penalty for early cancellation and she couldn't do anything about the charge that was falsley put through my bank account.
I advised her that I wanted my account "cancelled" and they could keep the $30.06 that they "stole" from me and send me a bill for $9.93. I was very skeptical about the ethics of the company so I cancelled my bank card they have on record so they could not put any more charges through my account.
I received an e-mail stating; "we were unable to process the final account charges listed below.
Vonage Account Number: *5
Balance Due: $92.98"
Luckily, I closed my card out! The only thing now is, I will get this turned into collection and have to pay it anyway.
So I beg of anyone and everyone... Do Not Use Vonage phone service!
