Involved in huge consumer rip off scheme

We signed up for a home security system with SAI in August. When the SAI technician came to our house, he set up our system incorrectly at first and made it so our internet and phone did not work. My husband had to finish the work so that the system worked properly. SAI would not send out a technician to finish the job after the initial installation without charging us, even though the technician did not finish the work properly in the first place.

The system has never worked very well, and we ended up only using it for about one month. However, there is no satisfaction clause in the contract with SAI, so, if customers are unhappy with their services, there is no way out of the contract except by death. We are signed up for the next three years no matter what, even if we never use their system again.

We have since moved out of the house where we originally installed the AIS security system, and we wanted to remove the system from the old location and put it in our new house, with the hopes it would work better in the new house. After calling SAI, we are told that, under the contract, we now have to sign up for an ADDITIONAL three year contract in order to move the system to our new address. So, we have three options, 1) continue to pay monthly until August and never again use the AIS system, 2) Opt out of our contract by paying the remaining contract balance, or 3) sign up for three more years of a system that we are displeased with.

The contract between consumers and SAI is clearly written to the disadvantage of consumers. Consumers have no way out of the contract if they are dissatisfied with the service. The SAI representatives that we have spoken with do not care that we do not like their security system, and have made no efforts to make their system better.

In our opinion, the contract between SAI and consumers is unfair, takes advantage of consumers and leaves consumers no recourse for poor, inadequate service. If nothing else, consumers need to be warned of this company and the bad business practices they use. While we may never recover the thousands of dollars we will end up paying out to SAI, others should know to never use the SAI system and/or sign their contract. The reason we cannot stop paying our SAI bill is because we know that SAI will immediately report us to credit bureaus and ruin our excellent credit history. The entire situation leaves us feeling violated and angry - and that is not what good business do to consumers.

We filed this claim with the BBB and I will update everyone when I hear back from them. Despite the contract, companies have no right to treat consumers like this. If nothing else, let's put them out of business!
