Misleading Reviews on PuppyFind.com — BEWARE!

I purchased a Yorkshire Terrier from a breeder that I located on puppyfind.com. The breeder had a 5 star rating and had nothing but excellent reviews. I felt comfortable making the purchase partially because of the history.

Unfortunately, my experience wasn't up to my expectations. I posted a less than perfect review on the site in regards to that specific breeder. A few days later I received an email from the breeder regarding my review. I wasn't sure of my exact wording so I went back to puppyfind.com to see if maybe I could have worded the review to get my point across a little better.

When I returned I noticed that my review was not posted any longer. Keep in mind, my review said good things about my opinion of the breeder and her professionalism, but I stated the facts in regards to the health of my puppy. I was not unfair in anyway.

When I wrote to the support team at puppyfind.com I was told that a breeder has the option to remove a consumer review! That totally defeats the purpose of a review system! That is unfair to the consumer. I was told that I could submit documentation to support my claim and puppyfind.com will then decide if my review should be reposted or not.

In my opinion, the review of a consumer is exactly that. Not everyone is going to have a perfect experience all the time, but that is part of being in business. Ebay doesn't allow you to remove a less than perfect rating and neither does the Better Business Bureau. The business has an opportunity to state their side of the story and request more details, but all of the information is there for a potential consumer to make an informed decision. A consumer has the right to know both the good and bad and both sides of the story.

I would understand if my claims were extravagant or degrading to the breeder. If a breeder felt that my review was less than accurate then the breeder should then have to submit a claim to puppyfind.com to have the review removed and I should have been given the opportunity to offer a rebuttal. But I wasn't even informed that my review was removed! I paid for this service and feel I have been wronged in many ways.

I just want other consumers to be aware that the reviews of the breeders on this website are not necessarily every buyer's opinion of that breeder and the quality of the puppies that they sell.

So not only did I pay to be a member of puppyfind.com but I also paid for a puppy that needed medical attention above and beyond what he should have. I am glad I am a person that was willing to provide him the care he needed. Where is the desire to protect the animals being sold?

As with any internet business beware. But especially beware of the only excellent reviews about a breeder. Maybe if enough people show their discontent with the review policies of puppyfind.com they will make a change so that both the consumer, the animal, and the breeder are protected. Right now only the breeder is protected and where would they be without the happy consumer?
