Unethical Practices Mislead by information given to me

I was recently contacted by Endeavor Marketing, most likely through my profile on Monster.com. After getting an initial email from someone claiming to be James Taylor, I've come to the conclusion that he most likely does not even exist.

The email told me to contact him at their Denver office to set up an interview. Upon calling, Corey, a friendly receptionist, told me he wasn't in but would be happy to schedule an interview. I was glad to do so. She reminded me to look over their website to gather more information before my interview. To anyone who has ever applied for a job this seems like a no brainer. So, on the night before my interview I did a quick Google search of the company, since I had forgotten the link. The first hit that comes up is an article on this website. After further research I found that similar information has popped up on other various sites.in any event, I called back today to see if I could get a hold of the elusive James Taylor. I called and he was again out of office (though both times I called were in normal hours of operation). I asked when I would be able to talk to him and the receptionist informed me that he didn't actually work out of that office. Also, I would never be talking to him since my interview was with the owner.

When I asked who the owner was, it took the receptionist a while to figure this out. At this point two things told me that this company was doing some shady work. 1) Why would I be told to contact an individual who's contact information is in Denver but doesn't ever work out of that office? It would appear to me that this individual does not even exist. 2) I would hope the receptionist of a company would be able to immediately identify the owner and additionally the person that potential employees are to interview with.

Though these two things could have been simple mistakes, I believe otherwise. As others have said before, trust your judgment on this one. I did some snooping around, asked a few simple questions and came up with interesting and contradictory results. These are not ways to qualm fears with prospective employees. I just saved myself a trip to denver and hopefully alerted someone else to do the same.
