Cox's Vom Shepherdhaus Kennels Buyer Beware! Dishonest representation, NOT a reputable breeder Nashville, Illinois

Bob Cox advertised an 8 month old female german shepherd as suitable for Breeding, Show, Schutzhund, Personal Protection, excellent temperament and a Top Loyal Companion.

The dog was very shy and timid when we arrived. Bob Cox assured me that this was out of character for her and that she was unsettled because they had just bathed her and she was not used to me yet. I have owned many dogs but my experience has been limited to raising them from very young pups. This was my first young adult dog purchase. I accepted him at his word since he raised her from birth and knew her best.

I called Bob after 3 days to explain how fearful and miserable the dog was and asked to return the dog. He refused to take her back because I hadn't given her enough time to "adjust" and that she would be fine in time. He also claimed not to have any room for her and said he financially was unable to refund my money.

I made several attempts over 2 months to get him to take her back as she remained fearful and never did "adjust". Most of my calls and emails were ignored. I was finally able to reach him by calling from a phone that wouldn't show up on his caller ID. He again refused to take her back but would help me by placing her for sale on his web site since she wasn't "adjusting".

This seemed to me to be more than just an issue about time and adjustment. So I had the dog evaluated by breeders and trainers who specialize in german shepherds, a vet and the German Shepherd Rescue Society. The dog was described as weak nerved, having character and physical defects not suitable for breeding, excessive line breeding, genetic defect in temperament, no prey or ball drive that would be required to train for any sort of sport or work dog training including Schutzhund, etc. After receiving this information I knew I could not re-sell this dog to someone else. This was not about a young adult dog adjusting. This dog has serious inherited temperament issues.

I contacted Bob and was hopeful he would act as a reputable breeder who guarantees his dogs and accept her return. He did not.

Bob Cox is very nice until he is required to stand behind his word or his dogs. This dog, bred and raised by Bob Cox, should have been a spay and place with full disclosure of her faults not a dog sold with full registration.

Please consider this dog and this experience before doing business with him.
