My friend bought an english bulldog puppy from D & A kennels last fall and when he brought it home he text me a picture of his puppy's sister. I had just lost my own bulldog puppy through surgery complications less than a year previous and always wanted to get another but didnt think i was ready... But when i saw that picture i just melted... So we drove to brooklyn from new jersey with my friends directions. He had said he had looked all over for a breeder so i figured this breeder was trustworthy... We got to the shop and there were many puppies there varying in age from 8 weeks to 4 months. They looked healthy but for one which had cherry eye but this is common in bulldogs so it didnt phase me. Dawn was very nice and the price was definatley right. We got a discount because our friend referred us. She gave us all the registering paperwork and a sales contract and told me the dog had a 5 year warranty. She also said that if we had any problems to make sure we called her before going to the vet as this would void our warranty... So we left with our precious punkin... On our way home anton called us to make sure everything went okay. He also told us to be sure to call him with any concerns...
Well it is now 8 mths later and punkin has had a few medical problems, recurring UTI's, dermatitis, cherry eye... Well thank god we got pet insurance... These are all common to bulldog puppies but with a good breeder should not be so common, in other words punkin should never have puppies of her own cos she would pass these on to her babies.
She now has entropian eyelids which mean they roll in and her eyelashes can scratch the cornea of her eye which is not only painful but can make her blind. The poor thing cant open her left eye and has the cherry eye in the other...
So i called anton today after finding other rip off reports online about this kennel and finally getting a number to reach them on, as the one they gave me no longer existed, and he was very stand-off-ish. He kept interrupting and told me to bring her to them to get the cherry eye removed, when i proceeded to tell him it was not only the cherry eye that weas bothering her but that she had entropian eyelids he didnt seem to know what i was talking about... A true breeder knows their breed!!! So i told him the issue and again he interrupted and told me to have the vet call him tomorrow. Then he promptly hung up the phone.
Let me set this straght, i would never give punkin up, she is the light of both mine and her daddys life. She is very loving, funny and a true character. Shes a wonderful dog who should never have had to go through all these medical problems.
I called anton today to see if the reports were true and unfortunately they are. Punkin will have surgery for her eyes even though one vet quoted me $5000 to do it!!! I will pursue d & A kennels for compensation but im sure to no avail. Im just writing this to help people to make the right choice when adding a new member to their family and maybe more people will see this and maybe report D & A like i am. My friend and i were unlucky in that all these reports i found were made after we bought our babies.
