On Feb 13 between 4 and 5 pm, I received a phone from a woman. She said she was with a magazine company (I didn't catch the name at first). She knew my name. She said that she was calling because there had been reported problems in my area with magazines coming late or damaged.
Because I was a preferred customer, they wanted to offer me a discount on my monthly rate. I told her I had had no problems. She said it didn't matter, because I was in the area with the problems, I could receive the discount. I said OK.
She put another person on the phone. He began to ask questions and me being stupid answered them. After I gave him my vital information, he said the name of company Readers source. I said that's not the name of my company and gave him the name of my company. He said they were taking over the 2nd part of my contract. He continued again I asked if they were the same and once again he agree. He became very upset because I kept interrupting him.
I asked what would happen if I ended the conversation now. He said that they would report me to a collection agency because I would be involation of my 5 year contract. I told him I wanted to councel. He said I couldn't because I was locked into this 5 year contract which I still owe 3 more years on.
Today in Feb 20th and I received the paper work in from them. My checking account # is printed in 2 places on the bill. I called the other magazine company to see if this was true that this other company had taken over my account. She report absolutely not!" We don't turn over or sell our accounts to anyone. And we are not apart of them and they are not apart of us"
She told me that I had 3 business days from the time I received the paperwork to councele the order. She said if they refused to tell them that I would report them to my states attorney gerneral's office.
I called them explained to the person answering the phone that I was very upset because they misrepresented themselves as my magazine company
and I wanted to councele the contract.
This person said he was "so very sorry. We look down on misrepresentation. Your contract will be counceled and a check will be sent to you within 30 days" I also requested a letter of confirmation of councelation be sent to me and that they put me on their do not call list.
I hope this will be the end, but if not I am prepared to fight. I wish I could get a copy of the phone recording of our conversation.
