After getting three phone quotes to move my furniture from Southern CA to NC, I decided to go with Fastrack Movers. They are listed in the web as United Express Movers. The quote I received was $2,100 for a typical 2 bedroom apt. If there was more than usual, it could go as high as $2,600 (4000 lbs.)
The truck arrived, a man inspected the apt, then produced a bill of laiding in which the $2,100 figure was at the bottom. I signed and left to do errands while they packed the truck. When the truck was 90% packed, the foreman said it would be a lot more based on the cubic volume, and how it transfers to lbs. How much I asked? It's about 10,500 lbs he replied.
The $2,100 figure quoted jumped to approx. $6,000. I was in disbelief. I didn't have the money. The truck was loaded. We had to be out that day. They said they could reduce it to $5,200 and put it in storage at $300/month until I had the money. I had no choice.
I moved to NC to live with my parents in their house. Two weeks later, my wife received a phone call from a trucker in Tennessee asking if we would be available to accept our furniture tomorrow.
They hadn't bothered to call and confirm they were leaving CA, or to confirm if I could be ready to pay. I wasn't ready. They said they would put our furniture in a local warehouse and bill me. Please help, what are my options???!!!
