I am writing this to Thank usacomplaints.com from saving me from being ripped off. I wrote 2 checks to 2 different young men (early twenties) after they told me how they were selling magazine subscriptions to get a trip to madrid spain. They were very well spoken and seemed like nice guys. They said i could either help them out by renewing a magazine subscription or donating to st. Judes childrens hospital.
There were several things that they said that just didnt seem right so i immediately went to the computer and looked up the company names of the checks i had written. I found this site and tracked them down to get my checks back by the time they had gotten to my next-door neighbor's house. I threatened to call the cops and they gave me my checks back, then i called the cops, but i think i spooked them because i never heard back from the police department after i made the call.
I feel sick about this as i actually invited them inside my living room because a cold front had just rolled through and it was the coldest weather south florida had seen in months.
If anyone is reading this and you just wrote a check, i urge you to go out and find/confront whoever you wrote it to. Don't let embarassment stop you from getting your money back! Thanks again ripoff report.
