And the Life of a Banke

I made good money during my time at Quicken Loans. I was incredibly young and they treated me incredibly well. I was not family of anyone and was offered leadership... And they pushed me to move up in the company... I left Quicken Loans for my own reasons to... Not for production as it was never a problem. I mean yeah... A low month now and then but over all good things happened for me.

On the other hand, being liked for some unknown reason (maybe cause of consistant good production) I got to see and learn a lot of things many bankers do not get to see that really disheartend me.

For starters the firing process... Oh god how sad. Well let me give you some details on a lot of the people whom are hired at Quicken Loans... Very impresionable. Yes thats right. Lets hire the young ones that will be easy to heard (sheep). So for instance: your production is down for a short while and even though you have good months normally they get on your case.in my years if I wanted more out of someone then encuragement was called for but thats not what I saw here. The directors start with threats of putting you on letter and tell you things like "your not good enough to be working here" "why dont you just leave and go work somewhere else" well, hell yeah thats gonna make me jump on the phones and work my tail off for you... Um wait NO

I remember seeing so many bankers come out of the office crying after these conversations. Many bankers felt comfortable talking to me for some reason and would tell me everything that happened in the offices to... Sad.

Then I get to see how thay actually fire people and i will tell you how it pretty much goes: So mister employee, unfortunately your not really cut out to be a banker, however we really like you and think you will fit well in other parts of the company. Now in order to work for the company again in a different department though, we cant fire you. Thats right, you have to resign and then re-apply for the position. So what we need you to do is sign this resignation letter stating you quit, then go to our website and re-apply for another position... Then impresionable employee signs the resignation letter and officially quits there job.

So now they go ahead and apply to the company again and never hear another word about it. Little did they know this was a sneaky way to get them to quit so there was no unemployment that had to be paid... Jerks

I will be honest... I loved my time at Quicken. Never I had a bad experience... Nothing but good things but to see this type of thing happen to others is terrible. I mean if your going to bring the young guy out of his steady job into a job where only 5% of the people are going to make it. Then dont trick them out of there unemployment.

Another thing... I here the directors tell everyone to work these hours here and these hours there and stay late, then come in early... It is suggested harshly. I can see why many people feel they have to work 12 to 14 hour shifts 6 days a week to keep there jobs. And many did and still do. Hmm they gave me the same rap... I never listened and nothing ever happend. I think I averaged maybe 6 or 7 hours and i rarely showed for those weekend shifts. If you are at quicken now, you have the pamplet that you got hired with stating the hours that were required which is 40 a week. So you have the freedom to do just that. Stop listining to your directors and stop being paranoid and stand up for your self and work the less hours. One thing I know about sales is... You sell more happy. I think I consistently did well cause I did not stress my self out cause I could care less about the job as I am happy doing anything as long as the rents paid. However this is not normal there. Everyone worries there tails off and tries to work work work work and then they are tired at work, stressed at work and there performance drops. Then they get pushed out. What are you thinking anyways? What good is all that money (if your making it) if your never able to go enjoy it with your family or friends?

If you dont have the production and can not get it done in those hours then keep doing it anyways and get fired. DONT SIGN THE RESIGNATION LETTER! Take a nice vaca on your unemployment go dancing and drinking and almost any loan company will hire you if you have been there a year or more. Hop on the band wagon and join the lawsuit as well as this company needs to stop pressuring these young teens into throwing there young lives away for the sake of a career as there are many good careers out there that wont require so many hours...

I think it is just as much the fault of all the dumb people out there that worry so dam much about what others think that got them into the mess there in with the long hours and everything at Quicken. Yeah... There are many things Quicken should not be doing and trying to get you to do. However they dont ever come out and say you have to... Cause this will make the lawsuit ever more easy to win so they avoid it. SO WHY DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE TO? Why do you care so much? Have you no self esteem? Can you not say this is not right and I am not doing it and then just not do it? FYI I know many bankers with the do what I want attitude rather then the do what they want attitude and they are typically the ones with higher production and happier lives.

Word of advice to the employee... Own your life don't let the world or a career for that matter own you. Just cause you work there does not mean your boss is an all powerful being. Be smart and read the job guidelines your signing for and if someone trys to say something to you about what your doing not being enough then pull that new hire booklet out and say "hey, according to what we signed on for, i am in the clear" (your production will more then likely go up since your not all stressed out to... You will see) And if not you can get a job working in a sprint call center working 40 hours a week making the same dam money so get fired and collect till they pick you up.

Word of advice for Quicken... Love your employee's, be open with your employee's, be a father figure to those underneath you and they will work harder for you because they want to not because they feel they have to and you wiil build a much stronger team (you will make more money and have better luck at the job)... Cause they care. Another thing, dont cheat them cause it did not work out. All your doing is increasing you bad rep with the rest of the economy... Keep it up and soon you will be black listed like house hold mortgage or ameriquest.
