Ripoff on faulty equipment and stuck with new contract

I'm not going to make a big long novel. The short story is that I wanted to have service with the Dual DVR which can record two channels or watch one while recording another. Even though there had been an extra charge each month for this service... It NEVER worked for the first 6 months.

I called numerous times and they finally charged me $75 to have a tech come out only to find the receiver was, in fact, faulty. They send out a new receiver and the same model, etc. Worked fine after that.

After my initial 2 year agreement was up, I was moving to a location where DirecTV couldn't offer me telephone and interent along with the cable, so I called to cancel. Well, little did I know, when they replace faulty equipment, the customer is bound to another TWO YEAR AGREEMENT!

First, I was paying for a feature I did not receive, then $75 for the tech to confirm it was the box, and then an early cancellation fee! You can't call to dispute, so they told me to write a letter to customer service which never got back to me. Since I did not want my credit affected, I got stuck paying. I was a customer for 6 years and that's how they let me go.

I asked the customer service about a hypothetical situation if someone's box malfuntioned on the 23rd month of a 24 month contract and if they wanted it replaced for the last month, they would INDEED be required to get ANOTHER 2 year contract. Not fair at all if you ask me!!
