I've been a RAC customer for over 15 months and I am 4 payments away from paying off my merchandise. The past 6 months have been rough but I have ALWAYS made my payments to them, even if it was sometimes 3-4 days late from me trying to get the money.
3 months ago, they started calling my job. I never gave them my work number, they got the information on their own and used the information desk to get hold of me. I explained to them that I could not receive personal telephone calls at work and to please contact me on on my home number, cell phone number, or home address. Since that time they have called me at work over 35 times.
They also came up to my job twice (that I know of) and tried to get past security to find me. Our security guards are all ex-police officers and they were unsuccessful both times.
I have been disciplined twice at work for the distractions they cause by coming up to my place of employment and calling. Our Security department issued them a warning that this is a private business and to not call here or come here. They aren't listening. My payment was due less than 24 hours ago and they called my job again. When they call, they are antagonizing and try to provoke me. I think the whole ruse of them continuing to call me despite my many requests is to provoke me unnecessarily. They are argumentative and threatening on occasion. If they call and get a co-worker, they tell my business to my co-workers. The arguments at work distracts both me and my co-workers.
I called the District Manager, who defended their actions with "you should have paid on time." I called Customer Service no less than 8 times regarding the issue. Customer Service refuses to let me speak to anyone other than the District Manager who has made his viewpoint clear.
Lately "strange" things have been happening while I am driving. I think they are stalking me. I am prepared to sue. They have trespassed at my job and skulk around, trying to sneak past security. Keep in mind, if I am late it is a matter of a few days. The perfect example is today, when it is less than 24 hours since my payment was due and they resort to these tactics, sometimes calling my job over 6-7 times in a single day.
I filed a complaint with the BBB, who said it is a legal matter and cannot help. I filed a complaint with the state Attorney General, that is pending until they respond to the complaint. They have about 2 more weeks to do that. I am filing a police report today after work because their repeat visits to my job fit the legal definition of stalking. Also, if they are following me on the road - they may try to run me off the road. Who knows? I want to be protected. I am also filing a restraining order against the employee who visited my job, trespassing on private property. I am considering getting a lawyer who deals with contract law for a possible lawsuit.
