Young college-age girl says her winning volley ball team had been invited to Hawaii to participate in a national tournament and team can't go unless they raise money for travel expenses per her coach. She said she was my neighbor, told me the area where her house was, and showed me a receipt where another neighbor I knew well and trusted had given.
She said she had to drop out of college where she was on scholarship for volley ball, but was fortunate to find a team in Atlanta to continue playing. She said she had to drop out to help her mother, who was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. I was asked to give money to this company, who in turn would provide books to my selected organization to help underprivileged children. My organization would be notified and allowed to select their books. The minimum amount was $40, and that is the amount I gave.
I selected my church, who has received no notification after 5 weeks. I called the phone number she had written on the cancelled check next to her name, and the number was blocked for incoming calls. I have since read this company in the "Scam Alert" section of AARP magazine.
