William McMahon AKA Mr. Bulky's, Sweet Sunshine, Candy Suite, Sweet Street
Mental anguish, stress, non payment of wages, etc

I worked for Mr. McMahon for 3 years before I was terminated. I will say this it was a learning experience. I started out as a manager for the first store to be put in Des Moines and I enjoyed the work I was doing. I was given a new store in the mall and a fellow manger wanted it and I was harassed and stalked to the point where I had to have someone with me all the time. We put a tap on the phone and caught him. The district manager then had a meeting and I was told that the other manager had been terminated... I later found this not to be true at all. He had only been suspended. Our district manager could not take the stress and decided to quit and I asked Bill for the position. I was told that he did not think I could handle it but that he would give it a try.

The first 6 months were not bad until he decided to put in a lot of vending machines in the malls that he had stores in. I also had to do the vending along with the other duties that I had. Along with the district duties I still ran my store. My district included, Omaha, Nebraska, Des Moines, Iowa (2 stores), Iowa City, Iowa, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Davenport, Iowa and Moline, Illinois.

The nightmare began when he could not keep up with the demand for product. I was told it was my fault nad that the employees were stealing from him. This was not the case. I had a great bunch working for me and they were doing the best they could with what they had. Some of the product was old and stale. If there was larva or bugs in the product we were told to ship it back to the Kansas store where I was told they would put it into a freezer to kill the critters and then place it back on the shelf. My staff worked very hard and I will defend them. He started closing the stores and end the end he cut my pay back because I wasn't running the district anymore, but yet I was still going to Omaha and Iowa City when he needed me to.

There was one Christmas Eve that I was called at 9:00 in the morning and was told to go to the Iowa City store which was a two hour drive in a snow storm. I was to call him when I got there. I was them told I only had to stay there for a couple of hours then I could go back home.

Payroll was another thing. There were countless time when I drove from Des Moines to Bethany, Missouri to pick up payroll and them had to make the rounds to my stores in one day so that they would get their checks on time. He nevr paid his bills nor would he return the calls to the people he hired. I was getting calls on my cell phone and at home. When employees would quit he would not pay them their last paycheck. I have the records to back this up. These people would call me at home wanting to know what was going on. Bill and his wife would not answer the calls. I didn't recieve my two weeks vacation pay when my position was terminated. He even cut my pay when I was "no long doing the district" however I was still running to the Omaha store and to Missouri. Would you believe his wife called me on Christmas Day to talk about business? His business ethics suck. I am sure there are others out there that have had the same problems.
