I went to the well publicized "Round Top" auction and saw an interesting little parrot there. The owners of the shop told me that he was made for Jimmy Buffett's restaurant and kept referring to him as "unique". Hardly. He was priced at 700.00, but she finally acquiesced to 600 not including tax. It was an expensive little item for me, but I thought I was purchasing something unique to the Jimmy Buffett restaurant and knew there wouldn't be an abundance of them in circulation. Wrong. The item is NOT associated with Buffett at all, and is readily available online for as little as 115.00. The HIGHEST price I saw for him was 189. I was just heartbroken.
I called hoping that the shop would make some sort of price adjustment but all I received was a gruff "all sales are final!". Essentially, "buyer beware!". I would have gladly GIVEN them half of what I paid AND the parrot. There's a line between enterprising entrepeneurs and absolute rip off artists, and I believe Rafters crossed that line. If they're going to hide behind "buyer beware", then I believe that the public should be notified that they have something to be wary of.
