I had a gift certificate for Newport News so I called in to order some clothes. One thing I did like about them is they carry jeans in tall sizes. I ordered quite a bit, including jeans, shoes, boots, purses, a leather coat and numerous clothing items.
I wanted the 15% discount advertised on the catalog, so the woman suggested I get a NN credit card, which I did. I created a debt of $97.00 and paid the other $500.00 with my gift certificate and my debit card.
When my order arrived, I was really disappointed. The leather coat smelled like "new car". I hung it in my bathroom to air out, but the smell was pervasive. When I tried the coat on I could barely fit my skinny arms into the sleeves. So that coat was going back. It was $129.00.
The shoes looked really cheap, a dress length was not as advertised and so on. I was unhappy with the majority of the order.
I called in to make a payment with my debit card and was told they didn't accept that form of payment. Odd, since they accepted it as payment for my order. So, my first late fee of $35 was levied. This kind of destroyed the whole point of my order, as I took out that credit card to save money.
Around that time I had a mild stroke and was suffering from several medical issues. I was unable to read my mail for a few months. I could not get my checking account# over the phone from my bank and could not focus enough to read my mail. I was very ill. I also had several hundred dollars in clothing I wanted to return and I didn't want to see my returns going to pay late fees.
I did try working with them but I could never get anything in writing that assured me of my original debt and non other. So the clothes sat in 2 boxes and the late fees kept going up.
Now, I am besieged with collection agents who are extremely rude, who call at all hours {5 am, 11 pm etc} and the debt is up to over $450.00. I have at least that much in returns.
As far as I am concerned, Newport News is a rip-off. For every satisfactory item of clothing I've recieved from them, there are 2 that look cheap or don't fit. I have read from other people that they were also refused a method of payment and a debt was created when they were trying to pay thier bill, so it seems I got caught in that trap.
I refuse to allow World Financial to use the inferior goods they sent me to go to pay a loan they created. I don't know what I'm going to do but I strongly suggest not using any credit cards from them. I just spoke to a totally unresponsive, rude collection agent and I'm very worried because my face is going numb. These people need to be stopped.
