EZ Movers
Took advantage of us and ruined an otherwise exciting move

My husband and I made the decision to move our family half way across the U.S.in order to have a fresh start. The plan was for myself and our two small children to stay where we were and pack our house while my husband left to get work started and find a house. It was important to us to ride out as a family, so we decided to hire a moving company.

After taking bids from several different companies, we decided to use EZ Movers. They seemed to be the least expensive and were very friendly. We were working with a man named Ben. We did everything he asked us to do. We measured our furniture, went through all of our belongings and Ben gave us an estimate of around $2000. We understood that this was a rough estimate based on the information we gave. As we were packing, we realized we had more stuff than what we told Ben. We called EZ Movers to update our info, and Ben told us that he had lost our initial estimate with all of our measurements. My husband went back through everything with Ben, except Ben wasn't asking for measurements this time. He said that with the items we had added, our move was going to cost about $2500. We were fine with that. We signed the contract and gave them our down payment.

Ben said all they needed was four days notice for pick-up. We called 6 days prior to the date we wanted to leave and not only had Ben been fired, but they said nobody would be able to get to our house until at least 3 days after we wanted to leave. This is where our trouble began.

Our house was ready to go, we had renters lined up to move in, and my husband had to be back at work. We made arrangements with a good friend of ours to be at our house when the movers came because we had to go. They were due to show up between 4:30 and 5:00 P.M. We were already almost two states away by then, enjoying our exciting drive. The truck driver called my husbands cell phone and said he had arrived at our house and he would be calling back after he finished his estimate. We were confused because we already had an estimate. He called back and said it was going to be $3700 now and that he needed us to call the company and put more money down before they would load. We were already financially stressed due to all of our other moving expenses, so we pleaded with the company to give us a break. After being pulled over on the side of the road waiting for a call back for an hour, they called and everyone agreed to $3275 and we put more money down. We were upset, but we knew we had no other choice.

We had just pulled into our hotel for the night as we were all exhausted and ready to relax when the movers called us ONCE AGAIN and said they had mis-calculated our estimate and they needed more space. It was now going to be $4000 or they were leaving stuff behind. It was late at night, we were tired, our friend had been there all evening, and we just wanted it to be over, so my husband told them to just load it and we would take it up with EZ Movers.

All the bickering back and forth couldn't make them budge off $4000. They had our stuff, we were screwed. They set up a date to deliver at our new house a week later.

On the internet, they show a cute little pink EZ Movers truck. No, try an extra long semi on a little residential street. The thing was massive. They couldn't get it up to our house (even though we have two acres on a corner lot), so they used my husband's trailer to bring our belongings up to the house.

The movers were very nice. It was an exciting day to finally have our stuff... Until we started noticing all the chunks of wood on the floor. Every piece of our beautiful firniture was gashed, cracked, scratched or broken. One of the movers was just dropping boxes right and left. I was in tears. My husband then decided to go measure the space our belongings took up in the truck to see if we had actually used that much space. Sure enough, we should have been at the $3000 range.

We called Diane with customer service and told her that we were missing a desk and that we were over charged on our cubic feet. She was in no rush to get back to us. When she did, she said she would be sending a claim form for the desk and that they felt we were charged fairly, so she offered us a $100.00 discount. We printed the sheet off to, at the very least, get our HUNDRED BUCKS back, and it's actual a "General Release of Liability" restricting us from filing complaints or trying to get any money back. OK! I don't think so.

Meanwhile, their $0.60/ pound wouldn't even begin to cover what's happened to our belonging, so luckily our homeowners insurance is covering it and suing EZ Movers.

I am sorry this is so long, but I want everyone to know that this company makes its money taking advantage of people who can't do anything about it. They are so lovely and nice until after they have all of their money. Do not use this company!!!
