I hired Mr James Veldhuis in July to assist me in resolving an issue I had with the City of Beaverton. I sent to James a fax of 10 pages outlining the issues involved and asked him to move forward with deciding the best way to approach the city.
At the same time, I had my property manager send him a check for a $1,000 that he received two days later. He told me that it would require some research and he would get back to me. After two weeks of not hearing from him, I called his office and was told he was not available.
So I left a message indicating that Id like to hear what hes planning. Another two weeks later I still had not heard from him, so I called his office yet again and he was still not available. After numerous attempts, in September I left a message indicating that I was unhappy with his NON response and that Im not sure whether hes fit to handle the case.
The next time I called I got a hold of Mr Veldhuis, he supposedly had sent me a listing of his research. What he actually sent me was a search on some attorney case database, which doesnt help me at all and probably took all of 15 minutes to search.in November I decided he was not going to perform the duty I requested of him and decided that he should send me a statement indicating the work performed and any money left over from the deposit.
I called his office and yet again had to leave a message with his secretary that Im not interested in doing business with him and for him to send me an invoice.By December I never received anything from him so I decided to send him a certified letter of my request. It is now February and he has never responded to me. I believe Mr Veldhuis had no intention of providing his services to me for reasons Im not sure. I however do believe that I deserve my fully deposit back and he should be reprimanded for his shameless exploitation of his position.
It is now over a year later. I wrote this letter to the grievance board which is a joke. I still never received any receipt, invoice, or statement of work. He took my deposit and essentially ripped me off. I will continue to pursue this and possibly take him to small claims when i have a chance to be in the area.
