I have had many phone calls from this company due to 2 credit cards that I defaulted on. I admit it, I did it, but there are extenuating circumstances. Due to a bad divorce lawyer, this has ended up in R&R's lap.
I have 10 year old twins but 1 son who is in the special education needs me around him, so I have taken on a job, part time for 3 hours a day within the school district, to be by his side a few extra hours each week as he goes through his day at school. I am a single mom with very limited support, meaning both financial and with caring for my twins. I am not complaining, he is my son and he needs me and I am happy to be by his side. I do not get any assistance through the state, I just make it each month with my pitance of a salary (approx. $250 bi monthly) and my child support.
So, one Sunday while I'm at home, I get a phone call from Mary at Rubin & Rothman. She begins by telling me that she is on my side, that she is there to help, yadda yadda yadda. When I explain to her about my financial situation and mind you, at this point I would be willing to try and work something out as I have done with another creditor in the past, immediately I am met with an attitude and she starts to get nasty by telling me to get a real job and she starts yelling at me "good luck good luck good luck" and hangs up on me. I was so furious that I refused to speak to anyone at that office again.
Well, notices came and went into the shredder, phone calls came and were ignored thanks to caller ID. I know, again its my fault but hey, whatever... I'm not debating that.
I went to put in my paycheck one day, and I found out that my account was frozen. I got the name of Rubin & Rothman and after going onto the internet and checking out my rights, I called them. Of course I couldnt get the person who was in charge of my account on the phone, but I did get someone who gave me their fax number and explained that I needed to send over 3 months of my bank statements and if possible, 3 copies of my paycheck stubs. Ok, fine, I did just that. I called all day one day and got nowhere. I called the next day and I spoke to the man in charge of my account and he said that he had already sent over a release to my bank since I proved that I make less then the minimum to garnish my wages, and they cannot by law hold onto my child support. It was aggrivating, but it was somewhat resolved.
Now, remember here that I mentioned I have 2 Capital One credit cards... So, I mentioned to the man in charge of my account that I did indeed have 2 files there at the office and to please make sure that the files are cross referenced so this does not happen again. I was assured that it would be taken care of, but you think I would know better then that!
So, I get a notice in the mail of a judgement against me and that if I do not answer the judgement, they will inforce it by means of freezing my bank accounts. Not too much of a big deal I figured, I'll just write them a letter explaining the situation and that should be it. I sent it out certified, return receipt and again I figured that would be it. It reiterated the fact that I had 2 files with them and the one person handled the one account and that they had all of my information there already. Well, I went to put in my final paycheck into the ATM at my branch on Sunday, only to find out that my account has been frozen, again! SO, there I was, Sunday night, getting copies of all the letters that I received from them and letters I wrote back with explainations, copies of my bank statements and copies of my paycheck. I faxed them all over Sunday night.
I have called them 5 times today with no return phone call at all. They are holding my money. I got the name of the person handling my account and I did confirm that he was indeed in for the day, but no one could confirm if he recieved my fax or not. I cannot believe that no one could confirm even just that!!! I explained that my child support payment is scheduled to go through either tomorrow or the next day and I cannot afford for that to be bouncing around the system, but again, no one could confirm anything for me, I had to wait to speak to this person. The person who answered the phone was useless. I left 5 messages for the account person with no return call whatsoever. They are holding monies illegally, and they are well aware of it!
I have had friends deal with this company too and no one has anything good to say about them at all. One friend defaulted on payments of a credit card and they ended up at R&R's, made her payments on time and yet she was still harrassed by them. I can say, that unfort. I have dealt with other collection companies too and I have been able to work with them, but this company stinks!
