The Moving Connection
Damaged my belongings while in storage ripoff

From June to October the contents of my apt. Were put in storage with The Moving Connection in Saddle Brook, NJ. This is the first and last time I will ever use a storage facility. I would rather sell everything I own.

When a rep. From this company initially came to my apt., she looked at everything I wanted to be moved and placed in storage. At that time, she gave me an estimate of $1,200 for the move and first months' storage fee. After the move, it increased to $1,870.60. They claimed an additional 2 and 1/2 hours of movings time, a half hour of travel time, (it does not take a half hour to get from Saddle Brook to Lodi) and my monthly storage fee went up from $354 to $470.60 per month. All I did was add 7 items because we were unable to bring them with us - they were a table, 2 chairs, 2 speakers and 2 small toy chests.

When my husband and I initially went to this company in Saddle Brook and met with a rep., he showed us the warehouse and explained to us how our furniture would be stored, how the boxes would be placed, how careful they were, etc. When my husband asked if at any time we need to get something out of storage this rep. Told us yes, no problem.

In August, I contacted The Moving Connection to get a box out of storage. She told me that I was not allowed to enter the warehouse because of insurance reasons, if the box was not accessible I would be charged $110 per hour and that my belongings were not even in Saddle Brook they were in a storage facility in Lodi. I was never told any of the above.

In November, we moved into a new apt. As we unpacked that month, we saw that our wall unit was damaged - I dont know what was on top of it but it must have been heavy because two big pieces were pulled up. Also the glass mirror on the door was broken and cracked. Two boxes of items my in-laws had sent from Portugal which we displayed in our wall unit were missing, my daughter's dresser has chips along the side, my dresser has chips along the side, boxes of christmas decorations were crushed and damaged and a box of tools, nuts, bolts, batteries, etc. My husband had was also missing.

I did not purchase insurance at the time because it was too much money but now I wish I did. When I called in November and spoke with The Moving Connection, she told me that I would be compensated anyway - 60 cents on the pound. I had to take pictures, write down all their numbers on the 80 boxes delivered to me so she could compare it to her list, etc. Due to a lenghtly hospital stay and death of my father, I never did this. I wish I did because I dont have the money to fix my furniture. I did purchase new christmas decorations last December.

I contacted the Better Business Bureau and absolutely nothing was done. I just want people to know not to use this company, they are not truthful, they are sneaky, and once they are paid, they do not think twice about a complaint against them.
