We, like many others recieved a letter about 9 months ago from this company, it was for my husband. He freaked out and couldnt figure out how it could be, he knew he hadn't ever written a check to the company they claimed but was still scared of the thought. One big thing I saw was the name was not correct, I had him call then he asked the man i spoke to to please speak to me as his hearing is bad.
I first informed the man that the incorrect name on the letter was one we KNEW to have been used fraudulently and put ON my husband in the past. THEN I proceded to ask, when the check was from, original amount, who had signed it (perhaps ex gf?) I was told he couldnt tell me that, I said ok, well send us a copy, front and back of the check and we will research this and happily pay it if its ours!
The man proceded to give me the, well its in the legal department line and he cant give out that information as i began drilling more, smelling a scam or something amiss at least. THe man became irritated at me, i BS'd him saying I was in school to become a lawyer, only in my first year but I would run this buy a few of my professors as the ilusivnes seemed dishonest to me. He began yelling and telling me the police would be on our doorstep if we didnt pay immediately thru western union. I informed him none exist in the town we live in, he said well you'll have to send a cashiers check immediately but he couldnt promise the legal department wouldnt have send authorities already so to keep a copy just incase. Yeah uh huh as if i'm gonna jump on that!
I called the next day to speak to someone in legal, I was told (by the same man) that he had no way to connect me, so i asked for their number, well he wasnt allowed to give that out, so i asked for his manager, he put me to a voice mail. Suprising NOT his voice. I was shocked and for the first second thought perhaps this is legit:-O
I called again a couple days later and spoke to the "manager" he asked the whole story so i told him, he asked my husbands real name. I told him and he said oh, i see how the mistake happened, i'll take care of this rigth away for you.
Great right?!
About 4 months later we get another letter from them, saying our acct had been sent to legal, oh, with the "corrected" name on it. Gggrrrr. NOw i'm really smelling a rat, i told hubby i didnt believe it was legit and told him, hey, we'll wait till court, get teh copy, show them its not yours and be done with it. So we ignored that one.
Today (another 6-8mo later, and ironicly 2 days after my daughter and I had a talk about scam artists and i told her about this example) we get another letter this one saying the paperwork was going to the local court and again hubby freaks!
I told him i'd deal with it in the morning, then i got thinking, sent an e-mail to the company he supposedly owes the money to and then for fun did a search about teh company. And look what i found!
However, i found something even better than all these other reports, I also stumbled onto my states website (didnt notice it was until i was reading. Lol) and discovered that the sstate of maine issued a cease and disist order on Check and merchant services/CMS.
They arent even legally allowed to contact me in this state without a license (which they've never gotten! Woohoooooo. SOOOO you all should check out your states laws. They might have something similar!

I mean scams obviously are NEVER legal. But to have had an order given from the state. Hehe, i WAS goig to throw out the letter, not i'm sending a letter in return demanding to be removed and a copy of the order:-)
