PODS gave me a quote that they could not honor! They offered me a one day grace period because they don't work on Sundays. They were unable to honor their offer and tried to get me to pay an additional $70 (prorated months rent). I only needed the unit for 1 month from Sat, 2/24/07 to Sat, 3/24/07.
There was no guaranteed delivery time (The POD could be there at 9am or 9pm) and I needed to pack and unpack the POD on those Saturdays. Because they cannot guarantee delivery time, I was very thankful for the one day grace period. Since both my moving days were on Sat, the grace day (whether I used it in Feb or March) would have to fall on a Monday. They considered that to be 2 extra days, even though I was only asking for the grace day in March.
I was told that the only way to use the grace day was to change my dates so that they didn't both fall on a Sat. I explained that first of all, there were only 28 days in Feb which would mean that I would actually be using the unit for less time than any other month. Secondly, my dates were not flexible because of my scheduled closings, and third, the grace day was being offered because they don't work on Sundays.
I was told that they billed from calendar day to calendar day, despite the number of days in that month. I eventually spoke with Ben, a supervisor, who told me to change my dates or pay an extra prorated fee of $70. He advised that what I was saying absolutely made sense but his hands were tied because of company policy and if it were his company he would make good on his offer.
I asked to speak with someone with the authority to actually honor what was being offered and was told that he was the highest that I could go and would offer me no further information. His demeanor changed and he said, "that's the way the cookie crumbles". He told me that I was trying to take advantage of his graciousness and that I should be thankful that the grace day was offered at all.
I searched the Internet and found a different phone number and was eventually escalated to Michael who was no different than Ben. They sounded like robots reading from a script and were inflexible. Hence, the reality was that the extra day grace period was equivocal and only usable if it suited them.
Luckily, I had this experience before using them and getting ripped off. I used another mobile storage facility, just go on the Internet there are many credible companies out there. Don't settle for this company who is looking to nickle and dime you. If this is how they conduct business, imagine the hidden tricks that might occur after contracting with them - I said no way and went elsewhere!
The customer service at "the other place" was remarkable. They were flexible and understanding of my needs and extended 2 extra days at no additional charge -and they were cheaper. I guess PODS thinks that they are the only fish in the sea because they had no regard for my satisfaction or seemed to care about losing my business.
