In January of Hart Dasteel was hired to take a family picture for a New Year's holiday greeting card. The assignment was not a terribly burdensome one and I paid $175 for the "work".
Instead of a decent picture to use on a holiday card, I got a role of poorly-composed, out-of-focus digital junk that he had the audacity to call photographs.
I complained and although he initially agreed to refund the $175, he soon became very arrogant and refused to refund the entire amount.
Although, I had considered filing both civil and criminal (fraud) charges, it really wasn't worth the effort.
This person is NOT a competent photographer As a direct result of his actions, there was no 2006 holiday card for us. This year, I hired a wonderful photographer for our holiday card and paid more than double, but it was worth every penny of the $500 fee!
(Her work is GORGEOUS!)
The moral of the story is that a) You get what you pay for (his fee did seem relatively low, however, he is far from a professional).
B) No matter how nice someone seems or how much he/she seems to want the work, this is not indicative of his/her qualifications.
I am reporting Hart Dasteel, because I figure that if he so ruined my 2006 card plans, imagine what he would do to someone's wedding, baptism, bar mitzvah or event. People deserve to know the kind of person and photographer that he is and it is my civic duty to report such a scam artist.
