We joined UCC Myrtle Beach for 4 years in 2003 and immediately order several items. From the first item ordered I had an issue with the owner, James Gengaro, regarding excessive freight charges. It took me 3 months to get him to refund me $28.
The last transaction I conducted with him was the ordering of furniture costing about $2200, which represented about a $700 savings.
The furniture was finally delivered in 12 weeks, 8 was quoted, DAMAGED. I proceeded to call Gengaro's office to report the damage and several other issues. I was assured it would get corrected.
After phoning back and forth for about a month, I got fed up. I called my credit card company to dispute the charge and sent Gengaro a registered copy.
Once I received confirmation Gengaro received the letter, I went to the "store" and it was locked with an "Out of Business" sign. No info, no help whatsoever.
I tracked down the parent company and believe it or not they must have known what a scumbag Gengaro was. They immediately satisfied me beyond my expectations.
I have just ordered a deluxe massage recliner from UCC, I deal only with the Home Office, and will save about $2000 on a $2700 purchase.
I don't believe UCC as a company is bad. I do believe they should monitor their Franchisee closer. We experienced the biggest scumbag you could imagine in James Genaro (and his wife was no better}. I guess be careful who you deal with.
