The week before I signed my lease, I took my mother to view the unit, and to be perfectly blunt, it reeked of sewage. I alerted the building manager, who insisted the smell was caused by the carpeting. She had the carpet replaced before I moved in.
Honestly, the only thing that truly concerned me was that smell, as it was obviously very unpleasant; however, I also noted that the tub had begun to rust, and made mention of that as well, with no action taken by management to correct that problem.
Time was running out on my other lease, and so I accepted the fact that the unit wouldn't be "perfect" on moving day.
Upon moving in, I paid $250 for this company to run my credit, and another $250 for a pet deposit, which was supposed to cover the cost of any damage on my end.
What I didn't know going into this rental agreement was that the smell was actually caused by the kitchen sink, which would occasionally gurgle and radiate the smell around the unit. When I reached Teresa some months later (after pinpointing the source of said smell), she sent up the repairman, who told me that absolutely nothing was wrong with the sink. Therefore, I was stuck with the smell.
Naturally, this is when I made the decision not to renew my lease. I requested a copy of this document, which states that I am only responsible for reasonable wear and tear of my unit under my occupancy. I have been diligent in caring for the unit and nothing short of a friendly, respectful tenant. As such, after receiving notification of these charges, I attempted to contact the number given to me several times with no answer other than a voice recording. Clearly, no one checks that box for messages, because I've yet to hear back from them.
I have made many of my colleagues aware of this company's questionable practices, and advised them against renting with TLC. I urge you to do the same. They have sent me to collections over this, which I think is ridiculous.
