We contracted with Mirage Pools after meeting with "Arthur" (general manager). We explained that we wanted a negative edge pool & he said that would be "no problem". We asked when we could expect the contruction to be completed & we could be swimming. Arthur said" in about 3 months." We had a nice hole dug and no one came by for almost 3 months.
The city said that as long as they show up any time during the 90 day period the permit was still active (we noticed it was going to expire). 3 months later the permit again was going to expire. We called them again and this time it actually did expire. They weren't happy having to pay another $120. They said the delay on our permit was due to the city being behind.
I called the permit dept and they said that this is a practice used to delay projects when the construction company gets behind. They never applied for the permit until the day before (telling us they applied weeks ago).
Finally going into the 7th month the plumbing and decking were done. When I got home the decking was incomplete. I called the pool co and got another round of voice messages and no reply. My wife called again the next day and was told by "Jaime" in a rude tone, "do you think that you're the only pool we're working on? We have 149 other pools going in at this time!" My wife called me and I immediately called them and spoke with "Eric". He apologized for "Jaime's attitude (1st apology from this co ever).
Eric said that we owed them another $1000 above our contract (Arthur listening on speaker phone) if we wanted the paver decking complete. After putting up with all of this for almost 8 months I agreed to pay them. My kids wanted the pool finished as summer was only 2 weeks away. It's funny how the work progressed and the pool was completed in less than a week.
Here's another issue that should be told. The tile man said that we should have the steps tiled (blue accents) to match the swimout area he completed on the deep end. He said he could do it for only $200 cash. My wife called me and I OK'ed it.
After months went by we realized that we had been ripped off again. The code says that the steps have to be clearly accented and was supposed to be included with the final pool finishing (can't even trust the sub contractors).
Shortly after completion the decking collapsed and we now had a 3 ft circle of sunken pavers by the east end of the pool. My son 9 yrs old (75 lbs) was standing looking at the pavers when he started sinking by the south end of the deck. They came out in about a week to repair it. We still had problems with sinking pavers. A partial repair was done 2 months ago with the sub contractor saying he would be back tomorrow (never came back). 7 months later and about 20 calls and no Mirage Pools. My son said the other day, "Why did we call them to install the pool? My wife and I are still asking that question.
We trusted, "Arthur" when he said, "if you have any problems during the 1st year we'll be here to correct it. We stand behind our work." Trust has to earned & this company has not in our opinion. I see the growing number of complaints has risen. We waited to see if they would do the right thing and they have not. They could have made a lot of money doing pools in our neighborhood.
Three neighbors came by at our last block party to view the pool. They liked the design my wife created and when asked if we would recommend them, we said NO. All three have contruction started by other companies at this time. I guess the importance of service does not exist at Mirage Pools. The operator at Mirage told us that the only way to get their attention is to send a fax. Even she was bothered by all of the complaints. We made a mistake and hopfully someone will read this and not do the same thing.
It's sad that they put customers through this.
