Last year, I contracted with Scott Alfie Raines to move my double wide from Denver to Borego Springs, CA. Raines did not show up and I ended up in communication with Chavis who had no hesitation about bad mouthing Raines and stating what a crook he was. After a very frustrating waste of a week, and a no show by Chavis' tear down crew, they finally sent out a crew with the wrong equipment and not enough axles. They were supposed to move the hold down anchors, but did not, and left the site in a shambles when they finally departed with the two halves.
The units were moved from Denver to just east of the California border (in Arizona). One of the units was abandoned just inside Arizona, and the other was left 100 miles inside Arizona. I had to take time off of my business in dealing with this whole entire mess and lost thousands of dollars in lost income. I was able to hire another company that completed the move. However, by that point I was out of funds to continue the project and had no choice but to sell it all at a loss.
Chavis claims they had valid California permits and insurance. It turns out he did not. He abandoned both halves of my house in Arizona, and lied, telling him his truck broke down. I travelled to the truck stop he said was fixing it, and they never heard of him.
So, be forewarned about this company. I understand he moves a lot of military families for the government. If this is the case and you are a potential customer, beware.
