I received today an invoice from Telecom USA, sent from PO BOX 600607, Jacksonville, FL 32260-0607 with a return address at 23235 Network Place, Chicago IL 60673-1232. The invoice is for the amount of $11.43 for 6 phone calls made on February 1st to Feb 15th of 2006 from a (718) area code phone that I had disconnected SIX MONTHS AGO! I called the numbers in the invoice, one in Poughkeepsie, NY, area code (845), with 5 calls, and one in Portsmouth, VA, area code (380), with one call.
Since I CORRECTLY suspected this to be a rip off, I started investigating on the internet about similar rip offs, until I found this company being howled about here in this website. I looked for the bogus address and of course, such address did not exist. Not the number, not the so-called Network Place.
Of course, I do not intend to pay these con artists one red cent, since those are phantom calls placed by a phantom company on a disconnected phone. However, what bothers me is that if they sent me this bill for $11.43, they could be sending THOUSANDS of similar bills to people who do not catch up on their scam, and ripping off THOUSANDS of dollars from them in this shameless thievery.
Can't the Attorneys General of the involved states DO SOMETHING to arrests these con artists and put an end to these scams once and for all?
Can someone contact me to tell how I can proceed in order to stop this? I'm sure that the proper authorities can find the perpetrators of this scam if they REALLY set themselves to stop them. I mean, I am not a cop and I could get deeper into it if I had the proper LEGAL power to subpena certain companies to provide me with information that would lead me to know where they are. Unfortunately, I don't have subpena power to force those companies to tell me the information that I need to find me, but the AGs do, if they WANT to. So, do they?
I keep this bogus invoice with me, hoping I will be contacted by someone with enough teeth to help me get that information, so they can be caught, prosecuted, and jailed.
