The first month free was just their way of putting you on their billing system while they ship their overpriced equipment to you. They bill you if you have the service setup or not.
The router they sent needed it's own dedicated broadband port, and some phones would never hangup meaning each call needed to have the box reboot. It would not tolerate any load on the router, meaning you need a dedicated DSL or cable modem to get it to work.
Calls would just drop mid-sentence for no reason. I tried this on three different cable company's broadband service. The line quality was like speaking into a cereal box, and there was constant static even though it was digital.
Whenever you call customer service the wait is at least 15 minutes. You must call customer service to do anything other than add features, meaning increase the monthly bill. Then if you cancel they penalize you with a $40 close charge.
NEVER use Vonage. The phone service is barely workable, the customer representatives are evasive and rude, the help lines are always delayed, and they charge you for closing the account.
