Starving Students
Ripoff, broken equipment, lengthy unnecessary wrapping of things Los Angeles California

I was in the hospital on bedrest with my last child. I was referred to starving students by a family friend of mine who had used them for her move the previous year before. I called them and advised that I was calling from a hospital bed and that I needed to reserve them for a move that would be supervised by my mother; since I was unable to be there.

The first time they showed up two hours late. I subsequently had to reschedule them for the following next available day which wasn't until forty eight hours later. The movers, which consisted of a three man crew decided that they needed to bubble wrap everything I had, even though I had specified when I reserved them that I didn't want the bubble wrap option, because, as everything, it cost extra.

It took them 2 1/2 hours to move a three bedroom apaprtment, which may sound big, but we barely had any furtniture and that took the previous moving company, an 1 1/2 to complete the whole job, packing and moving from one house to another. After everything was done and said, my bill came up to $640.00 (the previous company cost me only $180).

When I questioned them why it was so much, my response from the supervisor was, "well $640 is nothing, because I may twice that in a day!" I was moved by starving students on 9/30 and was released from the hospital on 11/2. When I got home and was able to unpack and look at my home, I realized that 60% of my clothes were missing, my computer monitor was broken, my big screen has a hole in the side, and several other items were either missing or broken as well.

When I tried to file a claim, I was told that because so much time (5 weeks had passed), that there was nothing they could do. I advised them that I had been in the hospital and had no idea that things were so disorganized. The bedroom furniture was thrown down or leaned up against the wall. All of my dressers and headboards were disassembled.

The whole experience was awful!
