Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific - RIPOFF False Advertising! Bait & Switch! Wrong Product!

In the 70's, I really liked a particular shampoo called "Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific!". You can't buy it anymore (at least in the U.S. I found out later). But an acquaintance told me you can buy it online, so I searched and found it! I went on their website (www.geeyourhairsmellsterrific.com) and looked through the site. Sure enough, there were the pink and blue bottles I well remembered. I ordered one each shampoo and conditioner, and waited eagerly for their arrival... And waited, and waited.

I did some more research, and found other comsumers had had problems with this company and this product: it seems they were not stating what size bottles you get on their website - they are sample bottles! Also, they take at least four weeks, usually longer, to receive. What I didn't know before I ordered was they are in the Philippines (the manufacturers - a company called "Vibelle" in the Philippines that apparently bought out this line of shampoo and conditioner from Jergens, and according to their package labels are manufacturing under the supervision of Jergens [whatever that means! ]), so they have to be shipped from there to here (U.S.), and then they go through customs. Another problem is that customs may open and inspect these items, which includes taking samples or a portion of the item (such as shampoo) and test it for drugs, etc. While mine made it safely through shipping and customs, this is something that you'd want to be made aware of.

So, I revisit their website, and sure enough, it says all this under the "Shipping and Returns in small print on the right-side menu. Notice it says they ship Federal Express? NOT! Comes regular US mail. Notice it says you will be given a tracking number? NOT! I asked in an email about the tracking number and when I could expect my package (as it had been almost 4 weeks), and this is what Robert Martin in the sales dept. Wrote back Hello Cindy, There is no tracking number available. As the e-mail below said, the item was shipped on 11/2 and takes about 4 weeks. You should see it in the next week or so. I had initially ordered my package on 11-2-05 (and got an email confirming my order was shipped on 11-3), so it was within the 4-week time frame; however, on the date stamp on the package it shows being shipped on 11-9-05, a full week AFTER I ordered, so the shipping confirmation email I got on 11-3-05 telling me it had shipped via airmail was a lie. So was the receipt of a tracking number.

Now comes the real pisser: When you look on the website, you'll see those pretty pink and blue bottles these are NOT the bottles you get, but rather a clear plastic for the shampoo and a dark purple for the conditioner. And not only are the packages different, but they are not even close to being the same fragrance as the original as they advertise! They smell like hand lotion (Jergens comes to mind). And the other item is the size: as I mentioned, these are sample size bottles, 50 ml. Being in the U.S., I am used to seeing stuff in pounds and ounces, so I guess it's my own fault for assuming 50ml was a standard size bottle (it's really just over an ounce and a half enough to fit in the palm of your hand), but I am still very disappointed! I paid $8.50 for each bottle; you'd think they would be standard size. I would not have paid this (plus shipping was extra) had I realized they were samples, and I suppose it's my bad for not getting a clue. I am the type they pray for I think they see types like me coming.

So, in a nutshell, buyers beware of this product from this company, as it is certainly NOT the original fragrance as their site claims nor is it in the original bottles. And beware of the size you're buying (I see now they have put the sizes up in a fuzzy-type that you can barely see, but they are still in milliliters not ounces, and this is the site for U.S.A. Orders they have a site for their own country http://wowphilippines.com/catalog/product_info.php? Products_id=253) that tells you to go elsewhere if you want delivery to USA. Also, read their terms, because customs can open your little box of samples and pour it all out to test for drugs and stuff, and you'll end up with virtually nothing and, of course, the shampoo company disclaims responsibility because as they say on their site, We do not have specific responsibility since the acts of your government are beyond our control..

I guess I'll just have to deal with lesser-than-terrific smelling hair and buy regular shampoo.
