I have been called by this company also and had my doubts. I did some checking and found the same thing all of you have that this is a scam. Anyway, I did some checking and thought about what laws these people are breaking and this is what I found at the Federal Crimes Website below.
This is Wire Fraud, the next time they call, let the person on the other end (after you find out their name) know that they are knowingly committing Wire Fraud and that each call they make is punishable of up to 20 yrs in prison and a $250,000 fine. If a financial institute is involved (like your bank) it is punishable of up to 30 yrs in prison and a $1,000, 000 fine for each call they make.
Interpretation of Wire Fraud
Interpretation of today's wire fraud statute finds generally that four essential elements must be met for an individual or organization to be convicted of wire fraud. An Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) must present evidence that when submitted to a jury or judge would prove beyond a reasonable doubt:
1. That the defendant knowingly committed a scheme to defraud;
2. That the defendant acted with specific intent to defraud;
3. That the defendant used interstate wire communications facilities or caused another person to use interstate wire communications facilities for the purpose of carrying out the scheme; and
4. That the scheme to defraud employed false material representations.
Potential Punishment:
One may be convicted of a felony, imprisoned up to 20 years and fined up to $250,000. If a financial institution is involved, one may be imprisoned up to 30 years and fined up to $1,000, 000. The punishment is per transaction. For example, if 8 telephone calls were made and 10 faxes sent, the potential punishment above is multiplied by 18.
Anyway, like I said get them to give you their name. Also buy yourself a phone recorder.
